Utah Restaurant Shuttered After A Clip Emerges Of An Employee Peeing In The Food Prep Zone

Rancherito’s in Draper is currently shut following a video that was posted of an employee peeing in a food preparation zone.

The clip was shared over 25,000 times on Facebook before it was taken down.

Nicholas Rupp with the Salt Lake County Health Department told him he received an online complaint of an employee peeing in the Draper restaurant Sunday.

Inspectors visited the restaurant at 12250 S. and “confirmed that a food handler there showed a willful disregard for food safety and acted inappropriately in a food preparation zone.”

The health department shut the restaurant for the area to be sanitized and dismissed the employee’s food handler permit.

The health department said the establishment may resume after appropriate management joins with the Food Protection Bureau and undergoes a “complete reinspection, including confirmation of employee training.”

Lehi citizen Robert Talivakaola, the man who took the video, told  “he was waiting to order meals while he was at the Rancherito’s in Draper and getting no response. So, he drew up to the window and the worker inside looked at him before walking away. When Talivakaola saw inside the restaurant to try to get the employee’s notice, he witnessed an employee peeing inside the kitchen. It is unclear if the worker was urinating into a floor drain or the kitchen sink.”
