Girl, 3, Who Won Thousands Of Heats Through Her Leukaemia Battle Dies On January 1

Her parents revealed a three-year-old girl who captured the homes of online fans when she battled Leukaemia on New Year’s Day.

Esme Handley was diagnosed as only 22 months old after she had developed a large bruise during her family vacation in Greece.

Her parents Rebecca and Will shared the heart-breaking news on the Esme Lionheart Facebook page, so named for their love of lions.

They said: “She was calm and in our embrace, knowing that she loved her unbelievably.”

“Esme Grace Angela Handley 13-08-2016 to 01-01-2020.”

A battle was fought against Rebecca, 38, and Will, 43, to try and save their only daughter after her diagnosis.

During a family visit to Greece, they found that she had a high risk of acute myeloid leukemia. When Esme fell over bleeding, both parents became worried when Googling the symptoms.

She was taken to the Greek hospital, where she confirmed her diagnosis.

Esme was diagnosed with a stem cell transplant in September 2018, along with three rounds of chemotherapy, but leukemia returned to the bone marrow of the infant after six months.

The family could not receive a second NHS transplant and had to collect $650,000 individually for immediate care.

Her parents admitted in November that Esme could no longer expect to be cured and said their child had enough.

We also mentioned how Esme was bedridden for three months and never would go any further.

But the tot had its own Christmas tree and had been already taken from the Royal Marsden Hospital during the holidays, to see the light of Christmas in Morden before Everyman Esher’s screening of Frozen 2.

Now Will and Rebecca, of West Norwood in southern London, are hoping to spend money on behalf of Esme. They raised $550,000 on GoFundMe already.
